Humane Education News
By Leslie Kegley
AFV Humane Educator

As AFV's humane educator, I have the privilege of talking and listening to many adults and children about humane issues. Traveling to the local schools and clubs, it is such a great feeling knowing that our humane education program is reaching out to so many people and helping the animals.

I feel the animals have a brighter future ahead of them because of all the people in our community who care enough to make a difference.

Thanks to all for caring about the animals,

Leslie

If you would like more information about having a humane education presentation done with your class, school, or group, please contact Leslie at (951) 471-8344.

“Compassion and determination to make a difference” are the words I would use to describe Paloma Elementary School in Temecula. The whole school got together to make a difference in the lives of the animals at the shelter and contributed to the humane education program through the Pennies for Paws event. They ran the event for one quarter of the semester, starting in September and finishing in November. The school not only collected monetary donations that added up to $966.93, but they also collected supplies needed by the shelter such as dog food, cat food, newspaper, cages, dog house, cat litter, blankets, towels, carpet and toys for the animals. My truck was completely full inside and out with all the supplies!

Along with Paloma Elementary, Lisa J. Mills School in Murrieta collected $546 and a whole truckload of supplies. And Oak Meadows Elementary School in Murrieta filled my truck with loads of supplies needed by the shelter. Antelope Hills Elementary and Monte Vista Elementary Schools are running their Pennies for Paws event now.

Please join in and be a part of making a difference for the animals, which also benefits the humane education program. Teach the children to reach out and help in their community.

BE KIND TO ANIMALS is an easy task to do,
Just make them safe and happy--the same things you'd want for you!
Never pull a kitten's tail or take a puppy's bone,
Comfort and spend time with them so they know they're not alone.
Always give your pet the fresh water that it needs,
Walk a dog and brush it--no matter what the breed.
If you go to a zoo, never tease an animal there,
Or stick your hand in an animal's cage--even on a dare.
From household pets to petting zoos, a rabbit or a yak,
Please be kind to animals, and they will be kind back!
